Etisalat Beach Canteen bursts into life as celebrity chefs get set to take centre stage

Pilates, live cooking, storytelling and live music has been on offer

Dubai Food Festival’s popular hub provides an array of activities, fabulous food and a host of entertainment for everyone to enjoy

 

27 February 2016 – Dubai, UAE:  Australian Celebrity Chefs George Calombaris, Gary Mehigan, Shannon Bennett, Matt Moran and Manu Feildel are set to turn up the heat at the Etisalat Beach Canteen on Kite Beach tomorrow.

The superstar kitchen maestros will conduct live cooking demonstrations from midday until just before 5pm, giving visitors to the popular Dubai Food Festival hub the chance to enjoy the company and dishes made by Australia’s finest chefs.KM019779

Saturday will also be a day dedicated to many fitness and fun activities for kids sponsored by MyGym, with sessions running from 10am-6pm. Adults can indulge in a bit of beach fun with the Hula Hoop Jam from 12pm-4pm.

The opening days of the Etisalat Beach Canteen has included Beach Pilates by Hotbox Kit, a live paella cooking demonstration by Chef Luis Ezqueta, ‘Storytelling by the Sea’ for children and live music by Ohm Records.

The first activity of the day started with the Beach Pilates class led by the Hotbox Kit. Participants enjoyed a good flex and stretch as the kites played in the sky and the salt lingered in the air. The workout ended with the participants feeling relaxed before they headed to taste sumptuous and healthy foods on offer by the pop-up food vendors.

Early in the afternoon, hungry foodies gathered on the soft grass to watch the paella maestro Chef Luis Ezqueta deliver a gobsmacking demonstration of the best of home-made paella.  Sponsored by Scafa, School of Culinary & Finishing Arts, the live cooking demonstration took place on the main stage with the Kite Beach making a pleasing backdrop. Chef Luis, the owner of a unique catering service called Urban Paella UAE, talked about how he has cooked paella in one big dish for at least 100 gatherings.  He used crockery that he bought from Spain in which he placed the fresh food products, including seafood and vegetables.

Later in the day, children gathered around a tree to take part in the activity called ‘Story-Telling by the Sea’ by BookMunch Café. Freddie Sakcman, Manager of Bookmunch Café, read from a series of books to entertain the children. Titles included ‘Green Eggs and Ham’ by Dr. Seuss, ‘More Spaghetti, I Say’ by Rita Golden Gelman and ‘I will Not ever Never eat a Tomato’ by Lauren Child.

As the wind raised its head towards the evening, live music by Ohm Records took the centre stage. Various upcoming singers crooned to melodious and laid back tunes while crowds enjoyed various savouries, snacks and meals offered by the food vendors.Paella Dish

The Etisalat Beach Canteen fans can enjoy a line-up of events over the weekend from 10am to 10pm. Today (Friday, 26 February), fitness enthusiasts started their day with free fitness classes held by HIIT Class and Morning Yoga.

The foodie fun once again started at around 11 am when cooking demonstrations by various established outlets took place. Food was prepared by an amazing line up of chefs such as Chef Vipin Kala – Ashiana by Vineet, Chef Vivek Kashiwale – The Mint Leaf of London, Chef Saad Tassoufra – Seven Sands, Chef de Cuisine Fabio Genghini and Vivaldi by Alfredo Russo.

Fitness was also back on the agenda at lunchtime with the beach fitness challenge by Physique TV. Kids also got to enjoy a spot of art with the Jam Jar Pop Up Studio from 2pm-5pm. Last but not least, the Beach Cinema, from 7pm-10pm, showcased The Amazing Spiderman movie while the Food & Film Night showed various foods created by the food vendors based on the Superhero concept.

Throughout Dubai Food Festival, and specifically at the Etisalat Beach Canteen, Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), an agency of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing has ensured to bring the best of activities that support their theme ‘Celebrate Taste’ to foodies and fashionistas, to the young and old.

Seventeen outlets, mostly home-grown brands,  have taken their rightful place at the free-to-attend hub Etisalat Beach Canteen to showcase their gastronomic offerings. These include Jambo’s Grill, Ting Irie, Pinza, Shawarma Station, Karak House, Moshi, Classic Burger Joint, Mantoushe, Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management , WOFL, The Hot Dog Stand, Barsalata, Khameer & Dough, Mokha 1450, Häagen-Dazs and Sugarmoo.
